Around the time the Sonic Unleashed plot was to start, most of the characters in the Sonic canon began attending a school named Smash Academy, which was connected to many worlds, including Tails'. Here he was a student, attending classes and learning more (while keeping an eye on Dr. Eggman, the villain of the series, who was teaching there). Sonic Unleashed actually happened at the school, with a failed roboticizing attempt turning Sonic into his Werehog form. Tails invented many new things while he was at the school, notably new vehicles. He also learned how to defend himself from Knuckles and began wielding his usual fixing wrench as a tool for self-defense should he have ever felt in danger. The residents of the school had the ability, be it with an item or a skill, to turn human and back to their normal forms at will. Despite his lack of knowledge and fear of love, a Valentine's Day event caused him to fall in love with a good friend of his against his will, a female Ponyta who mostly stayed in human form, but the same thing happpened to her, and eventually they shared a cutesy relationship that ended with them remaining very good friends. He ended up leaving the school to go back home and continue inventing things.
It wasn't long before he was forcibly teleported to a place called Confuto Ordinatio, a headquarters situated in the middle of all multiverses. Its mission was to keep them from overlapping, and sometimes people were teleported there against their will, and it was their choice to remain and help them. Tails, of course, stayed. The moment he entered, there was an invasion and he found another version of Sonic there helping defend it. He manned an augmentation 'station' where he could give people boosts in power and scan enemies, and with his and everyone's help, the invasion was stopped. He continued inventing new things, such as new renewable power sources and an upgrade to his usual biplane. When Carmen Sandiego (yes, you're reading this right) and her band of thieves take items from around the multiverse, a Chaos Emerald ends up in the bunch. Tails ends up taking a friend with him to his world to gather the other six before Dr. Eggman could. Eventually Tails succeeded and the emeralds were scattered again so their powers could not be used together by Eggman. Eventually another Dr. Eggman from the past enters Confuto Ordinatio and, though the power of another set of stones with time traveling powers, the Time Stones, he changes the past of their planet so that Sonic will cease to exist and other horrendous things will happen. The ARK from Sonic Adventure 2 crashes into the earth, jungles and wildlife burnt and extinct. Tails then led a large group of Agents from CO to stop Dr. Eggman and rescue Sonic. Tails himself led a smaller group to take care of Eggman directly while the rest dealt with his giant robot army. Eventually Eggman was defeated, the past was fixed and Sonic came back.
Soon after that, Sonic and Tails went back home and canon resumed as normal, until after the events of Sonic Lost World, where Tails was taken to yet another new place - Kalos, a region in the Pokemon World. There he met a few new friends, and began catching Pokemon and earning gym badges. However, soon after getting his first badge, the Bug Badge, he went to sleep and suddenly awoke within the land of Equestria.
Personality:
Tails is an extremely amiable and ambitious fox, always preferring to be kind to others. He's definitely not as shy as he used to be around new people, but anyone who's obviously evil might have a hard time getting him to stay put. He's very courageous as well, even moreso than he used to be; he used to be just another person, then he became Sonic's sidekick, leading up to his first solo fight with Dr. Ivo Robotnik, and then leading to him becoming Robotnik's intellectual rival. All of this came from his looking up to Sonic and wanting to be a hero like him. By the time he became Robotnik's rival, he had become a lot more independent than he was. He's a powerful ally around his friends and always tries to help them out as best he can. At the age of 13, Tails is becoming more mature, but still lacks it most of the time when he's not on an adventure. This is especially in part to Sonic not being the maturest guy all the time, and since Tails modeled after him, Tails still has a bit of immaturity. However, his ability to do things on his own does help his maturity level.
Tails is a very intelligent fox as well. Even when he was a young fox on his homeland, he would invent things and fix mechanics. He found he had an odd connection with building things, and it served to fuel his interest in this subject. However, due to this he was always made fun of when he was young, and found it hard to make friends or get along with people. Even when he first met Sonic, he had to follow him around for an entire game one full adventure before he proved his worth when flying towards the Wing Fortress and becoming his friend. He loves to research things, especially when they further his knowledge on subjects he doesn't know fully about yet. He's extremely book smart, and it came in handy when he eventually taught Electrical Mechanics at Spagonia University. He also always researches things that come in handy for adventures, and pays great attention to detail when it comes to... well, anything. This causes him to have a lot more insight to things than the rest of the group. However, he has a tendency to accidentally blurt things out when rambling, even slightly personal information or secret plans, such as when the group was trying to give the fake Chaos Emerald to Robotnik; Tails accidentally said it was fake, thus almost dooming Sonic to a space death.
However, Tails still has a few weaknesses that impede his progress to intellectual nirvana. A big thing is that his ability to fix machines tends to go overboard sometimes; he might see something that's broken down or in need of something and his mechanic senses will tingle, causing him to lose himself in the frantic fixing/coloring/whatever the case may be. This is actually how he acquired the Tornado, as it used to belong to Sonic. Tails fixed it up AND gave it a brand spanking new color on top of that. Sonic, in return, let him keep it. Thankfully, he can generally keep a cool head about upgrading things that aren't his without permission; after all, that's just wrong. He'll stick to losing his head in fixing things. He also tends to lose himself in thought during some of the worst times; during crises where he has to think of something is a good example here. Don't be surprised if you're flying with him, and then the engine gives out and you're stuck watching his tails swish in the air as he's furiously in thought about what to do. This ties in to his tendency to panic when things are going horrendously wrong, but he generally gets his head in the right place and does what he has to. He dislikes being rushed by people, as it tends to make him fidget and panic if he's getting screamed at by someone. He also dislikes it when someone tries to mess with his inventions, fearing they might get damaged or destroyed, or either he or the other person get harmed.

The sight scares the living bejeezus out of him, since that's a big thing that can bring his biplane down in a single swoop. The worst part is that, unlike the other fears he's already conquered, there's no way to conquer the fear of lightning. His ambitions, though, mostly attribute to making sure his friends are safe, and doing anything and everything he can to assist them. His ambitions for himself, however, are to become a world-famous mechanic, and be able to help the world at large with his inventions. He enjoys showing other people what he makes, and loves talking technobabble with whoever will actually listen to him. His friends and people he sees tend to motivate him to work harder, especially when he sees others do amazing things.
Tails doesn't like to stand idle and do nothing, which is something Sonic pretty much passed on to him. He's not impatient by any stretch, but he still prefers to be doing something to pass the time while he's etiher waiting on something or having to stand around. He gets quite fidgety and bored otherwise. Though whenever he's not reading up on something or working on an invention, he's generally thinking up a blueprint or some way to upgrade what he already has. Since he's quite intellectural, his memory is generally very good.
Strengths: His friends. No, literally, his friends are his strength. Though he still has a few lingering self-esteem issues, having his friends around makes him feel like he's contributing to something greater. His constant optimism still shines through after everything he's been through, and his knowledge of mechanics and programming just keeps growing. He's also very cunning and can outwit others when he puts his mind to it. In most situations he can think of a plan when there needs to be one, and now he has the confidence to put those plans into action. He can defend himself when necessary.
Weaknesses: Unfortunately, Tails traded in his OU weaknesses for some AU ones. His unwavering conviction to keeping his friends safe is a gigantic liability, and can put him in a really tight spot if they're threatened and he's not able to get to them. He's no longer quite as naive, being older, but that doesn't stop some things from just going over his head. He still dislikes conflict unless the need arises. He fears losing his friends, or not being able to be there for them. Worse than that, he fears one day he may be useless to them and to himself.
Possessions: His red scarf and his fixing wrench, as well as the ring that was able to turn him human in Smash. (Which will not work here.)
